A couple new doodles & a classic Can-Con rock banger

Hey there, Reader!
What’s up? How’ve you been?
It’s still up to around 30C in the afternoons where I live, but the fall is starting to announce its imminent arrival in small ways. Like me having to wear a long-sleeved shirt for my morning walks. Or the way that the local Winners is starting to sell corduroy jackets.
I bought one, which looked charcoal/black in the store’s lighting but chocolate brown in the sunlight as I was taking the bag out of my trunk. I might actually return it, dunno. Chocolate’s for eatin’, not for wearin’ at least in my personal color cosmology.
But that’s just me being picky, I guess, and also not really needing a corduroy jacket.
I’ll think about it.
Anyway, I’ve been chugging along on the Noah book and thought I was done ’til I realized I’d made a very rookie mistake in mismatching the color spaces (RGB vs CMYK). I won’t bore you with all the details, but let’s just say this sort of simple mistake is why airline pilots have super-basic things on their pre-flight checklists.
Did I just compare making a silly comic book to flying a plane? Why yes, yes I did.
(My dad always hoped I’d take up flying and this is the closest I ever get.)
WEBSITE OVERHAUL PLANS
I get more into the weeds of this in this week’s blog post over at pyradraculea.substack.com, but I’m planning to overhaul my websites over the next several months to a year. Ditch the Wordpress (probably) and make things look more cartoony and interesting and—
"Bad cheez, man... bad cheez..."
—hungover, I guess, as the case may be for Ricky’s site. At first, little will change on the public-facing side as I’ll need to build things in “sandbox” before uploading to the live site, but we’ll get there.
THE DAILY DOODLE
I’ve been lax in doing my morning doodle cartoon but I’m gonna try to get back at it. Here’s one from Thursday in which I’m contemplating my own mortality as indicated by me now finding tech stuff confusing:
It’s the second week of the month and that means it’s Ricky’s turn to hog this space. Take it away, Ricky:
Oh, hey… um… so the Cartoonist says I gotta tell you guys about my weekend, so... OK... I guess.
Well, there was the usual work stuff. Y’know, Saturday I get up with a pounding hangover at 7am, went over and did a couple hours helping Groundskeeper Bob at the Ratland Golfland, like always. Then I had to mow Mama Rat’s lawn real quick at 10 with her yelling the whole time about other chores she thought I ought ta do but I had to go to work.
I get to the studio at 11, walk in the door and within 5 minutes I was right back out the door fetching lunch: fresh veggie subs for Jeff, sushi for the drummer’s girlfriend, and greasy burgers for the rest of the band and the crew. Drop that off... oops, now the boss Big Mike got me going out again to fetch Jack Daniels and go down to Roy’s Pot Palus for edibles and smokes, come back with that... now the guitarist broke a string so I gotta go to the Ratland Rocksville store for strings, come back and have a puff puff pass with the guys in the parking lot.
And you know what comes after that: munchies. So I gotta go out again to the Ratmark Supercenter to fetch all manner of cheez puffs and chips and chocolate and pretzels… and a veggie platter with extra baby carrots for Jeff and the drummer’s girlfriend.
I get back with that just in time for 5 o’clock and the A&R douchebags are there and it’s time for dinner and they want steak. Fortunately, that’s Intern Dave’s job to cook, but I had to run back out and fetch steak and cheez and taters. Not from the Ratmart, though, 'cuz their steaks suck, so I went to the Fresh Grub—y’know, the snooty grocery story, but that’s OK, because the A&R douchebags expense this stuff and the label bills it to the band versus the recoup, but anyway—and then dropped that off and while Intern Dave was cooking up a storm I was back out to the Liquor Rat for more booze and wine for dinner, plus I had to swing by Roy’s again.
Good thing is Roy's my Mama's brother so I get the family discount even when I'm just fetchin' for the boss.
Then there was the post-dinner munchie run to the corner store.
Then ‘cause the mix was done it was party time while Intern Dave was busy printing stems and doing the hard drive stuff, so we all got plastered and I don’t remember much after that but I woke up on Sunday morning face down in the reverb chamber off the side of the live room. I think it was about noon… naw, it was closer to 3pm.
Intern Dave had crashed in the studio, too, but he got the sofa in the lounge.
And we didn’t have no clients in on Sunday but we had to get everything prim and proper for Monday morning’s new clients.
Man, my head hurts…”
Looks like Ricky's boss plagiarized the reverb chamber design from Abbey Road...
Dude… you gotta pull rank and make Intern Dave crash in the reverb chamber while you get the good sofa. You’ve been there longer.
UPCOMING “HOLIDAYS”
It’s a running gag with Noah’s Archipelago that Noah loves any National (Fill In The Blank) Day or other observances and holidays. Here’s a couple fun ones happening this week:
Today is National Lazy Day… a holiday made for me!
Tuesday is Play in the Sand Day
Wednesday is National Vinyl Record Day
Well, that’s about it from me and my cartoon friends for this week. Go be lazy in the sand, just don’t get any in your vinyl records or they’ll get scratched.
If you know anyone who might find this newsletter fun, be sure to forward it to them.
